MoU Between the Port Qasim Authority PQA and National Institute of Maritime Affairs NIMA
Karachi, 01 Nov 2023 A delegation of the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), led by Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmed Saeed HI(M), visited Port Qasim Authority (PQA) to formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the PQA and NIMA. Rear Admiral (Retd) Syed Hasan Nasir Shah HI(M), Chairman of Port Qasim Authority, extended a warm welcome to the NIMA team.
During the meeting, the Chairman of PQA briefed the NIMA team about the functions and operations of PQA. He highlighted that the performance of PQA in terms of revenue and world ranking has improved significantly in recent years. He also briefed about the ongoing, recently completed, and future developmental projects of the port.
DG (Ops) PQA, & DG (Projects) provided detailed insights into operational activities and the industrial complex of the port. Chairman PQA also underscored the strategic importance of PQA as an energy hub for the country.
Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmed Saeed HI(M), DG NIMA, provided an overview of NIMA’s ongoing tasks, international collaborations, and Maritime research areas. He also highlighted NIMA’s ongoing focused areas, encompassing green shipping, ship recycling, and fishing initiatives.
The event concluded with the signing of the MOU between PQA and NIMA, symbolizing the commitment of both organizations for mutual cooperation and collaboration for the development of the Maritime sector of Pakistan. The MoU documents were dully endorsed with the signatures of DG NIMA, Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmed Saeed, and PQA Chairman Rear Admiral (Retd) Syed Hasan Nasir Shah.
The main objective of the MoU is the establishment of PQA sponsored Chair at NIMA. The Chair is envisioned to enhance applied research at NIMA with focused attention on ports, shipping and marine pollution.
