Minhaj University Lahore hosted a seminar on” Gwadar Port and CPEC, ” organized by the Center of Research and Innovation in Maritime Affairs (CRIMA). The event featured prominent guests, including Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmed Saeed HI(M), Director-General National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) Islamabad, and Commodore Ali Abbas SI(M) and Commodore Babar Bilal Haider SI (M ).
During his address, Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed underscored the transformative impact of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) initiated by China in 2013. He highlighted that over 155 countries, including Pakistan, have actively participated in this monumental agreement. Vice Admiral Saeed emphasized that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has the potential to revolutionize not only the economies of both China and Pakistan but also holds significant promise for all the nations interconnected with this vast network. In discussing the prerequisites for the project’s success, he stressed the critical need to fortify Pakistan’s infrastructure and transportation systems.
Commodore Ali Abbas SI(M) discussed “Gwadar Port Defense and Current Security Challenges,” while Commodore Babar Bilal SI(M) spoke on “Navigating Challenges and Opportunities along the Maritime Silk Road.”
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sajid Mahmood Shahzad expressed his gratitude to the participants and underscored the vital role of educational institutions in maritime affairs education and research. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between educational institutions and government bodies, both public and private, to advance research in this field.The seminar included a lively Q&A session addressing students’ inquiries.
