“Developing Mariculture in Pakistan”
National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) organized an interactive webinar on ““Developing Mariculture in Pakistan”. Farrukh Toirov (Deputy Country Representative), FAO graced the occasion as the guest of honor whereas, eminent speakers included Moazzam Khan – Technical Advisor, WWF-P, Muhammad Wasim Khan – National Fisheries Consultant, FAO and Junaid Wattoo – CTO, Fisheries Development Board, FDB). Commodore (Retd) Baber Bilal SI(M) moderated the session, whereas Vice Admiral (Retd) Abdul Aleem HI(M), Director General NIMA welcomed all the worthy speakers/participants in the webinar and highlighted the importance of developing mariculture in Pakistan. Anam Ejaz, Research Officer- Fisheries and Conservation (NIMA) set the stage by giving a short introduction to aquaculture and mariculture. Mr.Moazzam Khan, Technical Advisor, WWF talked about the ‘Importance of Developing Mariculture in Pakistan and its Role in Marine Biodiversity Conservation’. Mr. Junaid Wattoo, Chief Technical Officer, Fisheries Development Board discussed the ‘Past, Current and Future Challenges of Developing Mariculture in Pakistan’, and Mr. Muhammad Wasim Khan, National Consultant Fisheries, FAO talked about the ‘Governance of Marine Fisheries and Mariculture in Pakistan’. The Guest of Honor, Mr. Farrukh Toirov, Deputy Country Representative, FAO, Pakistan applauded the efforts put in by NIMA for bringing together policy makers and academicians to highlight this important maritime issue.
