World Fisheries Day 2023

In order to celebrate the World Fisheries Day-2023, National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) is undertaking number of activities to acknowledge the efforts of fishermen community and highlight the challenges faced during fishing practices.

In this regard NIMA researchers visited Ibrahim Hyderi and engaged with the fishermen community. The NIMA researchers briefed the community on following aspects:

• Information about illegal nets

• Promoting personal Hygiene: A vital component of fishing communities well being

• Fishing Practices effecting Biodiversity

• Preserving the Catch: Best practices for fish handling

• Use of technology in fishing practices

• Importance of mangroves ecosystem for fisheries and fishing communities

The fishermen expressed appreciation for NIMA’s initiative towards promoting sustainable and safe fishing practices.
