24 Mar 2025, The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) marked Pakistan Resolution Day on March 23, 2025, with fervour and patriotism. To commemorate this historic occasion, President NIMA, Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed HI(M) (Retd), Vice President NIMA, Commodore Dr. Baber Bilal Haider SI(M) (Retd), and Research Associate Ms. Sana Fatima delivered thought-provoking talks. Their addresses shed light on the profound significance of the day and its enduring relevance to Pakistan’s identity and progress.

20 Mar 2025, Air Marshal Rashid Kamal HI(M) and Dr. Basharat Hasan Bashir, a specialist in alternative energy and sustainable development, visited the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), and met with its President, Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed.

18 Mar 2025, Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed HI(M), President of the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), met with Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan, Mr. A Christy Ruban, in Islamabad. The meeting centered around strengthening maritime ties between NIMA and Sri Lankan think tanks through collaborative research, seminars, and conferences. The High Commissioner expressed his support for the proposed initiatives, ensuring his full backing. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with a cordial exchange.

8 Mar 2025, the Pakistan Autism Health Sciences & Research Foundation (PAHSRF) successfully held the Grand Opening Ceremony of the PAHSRF Site Office and Al-Salam Hospital, a landmark initiative dedicated to advancing autism healthcare and research.
President NIMA was invited as the Guest of Honor, adding great prestige to the occasion. Additionally, The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Anssi Kullberg, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Finland, who attended as the Chief Guest.

6 Mar 25, President NIMA, Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed HI(M), called on Ambassador of Turkiye H E Irfan Neziroglu. The meeting remained focused on identifying greater avenues for enhancing maritime cooperation between NIMA and Turkish maritime think tanks & related institutions. It included conducting joint research and conferences on changing dynamics of maritime security, Ship Recycling Industry, tourism, sea transportation, fisheries, etc.
H E expressed his gratitude on successful conduct of Ex Aman & Aman Dialogue 25. He also assured full participation from Turkish defence related firms in the upcoming PIMEC-25 in Nov.
Upon conclusion, pleasantries were exchanged.

29 Jan, 25, The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) has partnered with the Center for Law and Security (CLAS) to carry out research on maritime security, Blue Economy initiatives, and international maritime law. This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at The Millennium Universal College (TMUC) in Islamabad Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed, President of NIMA, and Sardar Masood Khan, President of CLAS, inked the agreement amidst distinguished guests and researchers. Dr. Faisal Mushtaq TI expressed optimism that this partnership would foster focused research, knowledge sharing, and policy formulation, ultimately promoting Pakistan’s maritime interests.

28 Jan, 25, Ms. Florence Rolle, FAO Representative in Pakistan, and Dr. Kanwar M. Javed Iqbal, Senior Policy Specialist at FAO, called on Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed (Retd) President NIMA. The meeting focused on various topics, including ongoing developments in the maritime domain, especially on the sustainable development and management of marine fisheries and aquaculture. Potential avenues for collaboration between NIMA and FAO were thoroughly explored. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks, after which President NIMA presented souvenirs.

27 Jan, 25, A heartfelt farewell was extended to Cdr Mirza Arsalan Baig by Director NIMA(K) and all NIMA researchers at Karachi. He served in the Pakistan Navy for 29 remarkable years, and spent the last 8 months of his service at NIMA-K as Deputy Director (Admin). Under Cdr Arsalan, projects were led which includes research initiatives, international & national conferences, and seminars. The NIMA team extends their best wishes to him for his future endeavors.

23 Jan, 25, Pakistan Navy is holding its biannual event AMAN Exercise 2025 in 7-11 Feb 25. This year the panicle of the AMAN Exercise is the holding of AMAN Dialogue 2025 in which Global Maritime Leadership, Practitioners, Academics and Industrialist will deliberate strategies to meet the common challenges in Maritime domain with the theme “Secure Seas – Prosperous Future”. The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) being the cohost, held a curtain raiser, offering a comprehensive overview of its objectives and significance. Dr. Baber Bilal Haider, VP NIMA shared the purpose of the Dialogue and underscored the importance of holding such event. On the occasion, NIMA unveiled AMAN Dialogue logo which depicts a new dawn of hope and collaborative progress, lighting the path toward a secure and prosperous maritime future. It also shows the importance of Navies’ crucial role in protecting sea lanes, emphasizing peaceful coexistence, healthy ecosystems & shared responsibility. The main theme of logo is to propagate necessity of fostering a secure & prosperous future. While taking the questions, Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed, President NIMA, emphasized the importance of strengthening maritime partnerships and advancing sustainable development, while also highlighting the media’s pivotal role in disseminating the Dialogue’s message to broader audiences. The event concluded with a ‘vote of thanks’. The event was well attended by representatives of academia & media community including print, electronic and social media.

22 Jan, 25, President NIMA visited the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in Islamabad and met with Rector Maj Gen Shahid Kiyani. As an alumnus of NUML’s French Department, the President shared fond memories of his time at the university. The meeting led to a proposal for NIMA and NUML to collaborate on promoting Pakistan’s maritime potential through academic interactions. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the country’s maritime opportunities and strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two institutions. To achieve this, both sides plan to develop a roadmap outlining future collaborative efforts.

17 Jan, 25, Prof. Dr. Abdul Malik Tareen, Vice Chancellor of Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences (LUAWMS), visited the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) on 16 January 2025, and met with the President of NIMA. The discussion focused on promoting maritime education and awareness, and explored avenues for collaboration, aMr Ahmed Raza Kasuri called on President of National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA). During the discussions, various topics, including Pakistan’s constitutional history and its importance for maritime governance, were dailated upon. Being a seasoned parliamentarian and a lawyer, Mr Kasuri’s insights and experiences brought a unique perspective to the discussions.including signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both the institutes. The meeting also aimed to further enhance the existing cooperation between the two institutions, creating new opportunities for mutual benefit and knowledge sharing in the maritime domain.

17 Jan, 25, MoMA organised a workshop on Aquaculture at a local hotel in Islamabad. President NIMA Vice Adm Ahmed Saeed HI(M) was also invited on the occasion. Secy MoMA Zafar Ali Shah welcomed the guests and recounted the government’s efforts to facilitate farmers & exporters. Minister MoMA Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh addressed the audience as Chief Guest. He appreciated the efforts of all in promoting Pakistan’s Acquaculture industry and highlighted the business opportunities. He especially lauded the NIMA’s quality research work and asked President NIMA to facilitate farmers & investors in this field as well.


11 Jan, 25, Senator Mushahid Hussain, President PAIDAR (Pakistan-Africa Institute for Development and Research), hosted a scrumptious lunch at his residence in the honour of African Ambassadors. It was attended by a large number of diplomats, academia, politicians, and press. The Senator highlighted the historical ties with the African countries and the emerging role of Africa in global trade and security calculas.

3 Jan, 25, Karachi: Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmed Saeed HI (M), President NIMA, called on Commandant Pakistan Marine Academy (PMA) Cdre Rizwan Khan SI (M).
The visit was aimed at connecting the PMA curriculum with NIMA research projects. Particularly focusing on the training & job related Challanges being faced by seafarers. Possibility of enhancing female cadets in PMA and their prospects of taking up assignments at sea. To facilitate the institute’s elevation to the status of Pakistan’s maritime university.

3 Jan, 2025, Karachi: Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed HI (M),President NIMA, called on Dr. Mansoor Ali Wassan DG Marine Fisheries Department.
During the visit, emphasis was placed on promoting research on fisheries and aquaculture, particularly shrimp farming, with encouragement for field visits by researchers. Dr. Mansoor Ali Wassan highlighted the sector’s GDP contribution and assured full support for advancing Pakistan’s fisheries industry.

3 Jan 25: Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed HI(M), President NIMA, called on Prof. Dr. Huma Baqai, Rector of the Millennium Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship (MITE), at Karachi.
Later, during the meeting with staff, areas of mutual collaboration were deliberated. It was concluded to start student engagements, initiate joint research projects, and organize seminars & workshops with an aim to generate awareness about the potential of Blue Economy.

31 Dec, 2024 – National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) participated in The Investor Conference on Contract Shrimp Farming, hosted by the Fisheries Development Board (FDB) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Karachi. The event united the key stakeholders to explore shrimp farming’s immense potential in Punjab and Sindh. Dr. M. Junaid Wattoo highlighted the economic impact of shrimp farming, while Ms. Florence Lik, DG MFD, presented compliance frameworks for global standards. President NIMA Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed HI(M) delivered a compelling keynote on growth opportunities, underscoring NIMA’s critical role in policy support and capacity building. With global insights from Dr. Kanwar Javaid Iqbal of FAO and engaging discussions, the conference was well attended and proved to be a valuable discourse for sustainable aquaculture development in Pakistan

26 Dec, 2024 – A delegation headed by Ambassador Masood Khan, President of the TMUC Higher Education Group, visited NIMA. The visit was aimed to explore opportunities for mutual collaboration between TMUC’s Centre of Law & Security (CLAS), other institutions, and NIMA. President NIMA’s extended warm welcome; it was followed by a brief on NIMA roles & functioning. Amb Khan expressed his appreciation on NIMA’s achievements and quality of research work being produced at the national and international level. Through discussion, it was mutually identified that the common ground exists with shared interest to foster our collaboration in research, training, seminars, etc. The meeting concluded with the presentation of mementoes to the dignitaries.

25 Dec, 2024 – To celebrate the festivities of Christmas with its Christian staff, NIMA joyfully organised a ceremony at NIMA head office Islamabad. The community led the prayer and pledged to play its role in fostering unity, peace & prosperity in the country. The ceremony was aimed at spreading cheers and strengthening bonds of togetherness.

19 Dec, 2024 – The CRIMA think tank of Minhaj University organized a seminar to commemorate the heroics of the valiant crew of Submarine Hangor during the 1971 war.
On the invitation of Prof. Dr. Sajid Mehmood Shahzad, Vice Chancellor Minhaj University Lahore, President NIMA was invited as the Chief Guest. While addressing the audience, he recounted the sequence of events in the 1971 war across the Eastern and Western naval theatres. He reflected on the unparalleled courage of the war heroes and the sacrifices of their families. He also highlighted defining moments, such as the unfortunate incident of Submarine Ghazi, among others. He paid a rich tribute to their everlasting legacy and emphasized the enduring lessons of resilience and bravery. His speech inspired university students to uphold the values of patriotism, hard work, and unwavering dedication to the cause. The event rejuvenated the spirit of Hangor Day and underscored its significance in the nation’s history.

19 Dec, 2024 – President NIMA Vice Adm Ahmed Saeed HI(M) shared his thoughts on “Evolving Security Architecture in the Indian Ocean Region” at a conference organized by MCE-CISS, on the overall theme of “Shifting Tides: Strategic Realignments in the Indian Ocean Region,” at Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore. The President highlighted critical challenges, especially in the non-traditional realm; the related risks & initiatives that are shaping the region’s maritime security architecture. Various eminent speakers including Gen Z M Hayat, Lt. Gen K A Kidwai, Amb. Aizaz, & Dr. Moeed Yousuf enlightened the audience. The conference was well attended by a large number of diplomats, maritime community, academia, think tanks, & university students.

18 Dec, 2024 – Mr. Nicolas Lambert, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Pakistan, paid a farewell visit to Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmed Saeed HI(M), President NIMA.
During the meeting, President NIMA thanked Mr. Lambert for his invaluable efforts in fostering a strong partnership through the MoU signed earlier this year. President NIMA presented Mr. Lambert with “Navigating the Legal Horizons: A Seafarer’s Handbook on Naval Operations and Law of the Sea”, authored by NIMA in collaboration with ICRC. Mr. Lambert expressed gratitude for the productive collaboration and reaffirmed the ICRC’s commitment to promoting human dignity within maritime affairs. The farewell concluded with mutual appreciation and optimism for continued cooperation between NIMA and the ICRC.

16 Dec, 2024 – NIMA held a special observance day to recount events leading to the separation of East Pakistan. The Researchers presented their analysis and lesson learnt. Highlighted the importance of national cohesion, political dialogue, and developing greater respect for diverse cultures & ethnicities at the national level. Despite this painful tragedy, narrated the unmatched sacrifices and dedication of the armed forces, who bravely fought even in the face of great adversity. Sea battle events of Submarine Hangor and Ghazi were recounted.
Unfortunate incident of APS was also remembered. In the end, offered Fateha for all Shuhadas.

16 Dec 2024 – Ms. Kiran Afzal, Senior Private Sector Specialist at the World Bank and Ms. Sadaf Khalid Khan from the Walnut Travel Tours Consultancy (WTTC) visited NIMA. The dignitaries were briefed about NIMA’s functioning. Areas of mutual cooperation were discussed, particularly, leveraging Pakistan’s maritime potential to promote sustainable tourism, Aquaculture, and food security. Also focused on enhancing the socio-economic development of coastal communities of Pakistan, particularly the women.
