They discussed enhancing collaboration between NIMA and KPT, focusing on maritime strategy, AI integration, and future joint initiatives for sustainable maritime development.

01 Aug 2025: Deputy Director NIMA-K along with NIMA researchers visited Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KSEW) as part of ongoing research on “Ship Building Industry in Pakistan”
Manager Ship Building KSEW Capt Imran and Cdr Shaheen welcomed the team and briefed the team on the shipyard’s operations, indigenous shipbuilding, and technological advancements. The team also met with PDPNMIO Cdre Umar Riaz, who further briefed the team on the shipyard’s strategic role and ongoing projects. The visit fostered academic-industry collaboration and gave needful insights into Pakistan’s ship building capabilities and Challenges.

28 July , 2025, Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed, HI(M), RETD, President of the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA), met with Major General Farhan, HI(M), RETD, Managing Director of the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), to discuss matters of mutual interest and explore potential collaboration opportunities between NIMA and NTC.

28 July 2025, Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed, HI(M), (Retd), President NIMA, met with Rear Admiral Adnan Khaliq, HI(M), (Retd), Deputy Managing Director of Bahria Education and Training Services (BEATS) at his office in Islamabad to discuss matters of mutual interest and explore potential collaboration opportunities.

28 July 2025, A delegation from the Sri Lankan High Commission, led by Rear Admiral Fred Seneviratne and Deputy High Commissioner Christy Ruban Augustin, visited the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA). The delegation was accorded a warm welcome and briefed about the Institute. The briefing was focused on potential collaborations, including joint research initiatives, conferences, seminars, exchange programs, etc
The High Commissioner expressed strong support for deepening Pakistan-Sri Lanka maritime collaboration, commending NIMA’s efforts in promoting maritime awareness and research. He hoped this relationship would further enhance maritime ties between the two nations. It will build on existing friendly relations to collaborate in maintaining regional maritime security.

21 – 24 July 2025, National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) successfully wrapped up its 4-day maritime workshop, focusing on key topics such as the Indian Ocean’s geo-strategic environment, Blue Economy, Maritime Law, Climate Change, and AI-enabled systems in maritime sectors.
Upon arrival, Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz HI(M) was warmly welcomed as the chief guest by NIMA President Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed HI(M) Retd.
During the closing ceremony, the Chief Guest praised NIMA’s efforts in promoting maritime awareness and capacity-building among youth through these workshops. He encouraged participants to become ambassadors of the Blue Economy and provide feedback to improve future workshops. Certificates were awarded to the participants, who included students, professionals, and researchers.
The workshop aimed to enhance maritime knowledge and foster dialogue among stakeholders, aligning with NIMA’s mission to promote maritime research and awareness.

23 July 2025, The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) and Quaid-i-Azam University’s Department of Defence & Strategic Studies (DSS) signed an MoU to strengthen collaboration in research, academics related to maritime affairs. The agreement aims to:
– Foster high-quality research
– Promote joint initiatives
– Raise awareness among Pakistan’s youth through coordinated educational activities
The MoU was signed by Vice Admiral (Retd.) Ahmed Saeed HI(M) President of NIMA, and Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of QAU.

The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) welcomed a delegation from the Progressive Climate Foundation (PCF), a youth-led climate organization, at its Islamabad office today. The visit aimed to foster mutual understanding and explore collaborative opportunities in maritime climate research, policy, and youth engagement.
During the visit, the delegation received a detailed presentation on the Blue Economy Potential of Pakistan, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with the President of NIMA. The young participants expressed strong interest in NIMA’s research and policy initiatives, highlighting the growing enthusiasm among youth for climate-resilient maritime development.
The event concluded with a group photograph and a vote of thanks by the President of NIMA, reaffirming the shared commitment to promoting sustainable maritime practices and empowering youth-driven climate action.

22 July 2025, Chinese Embassy delegation, led by Senior Captain Wan Hongjun and Colonel Li Dawei, visited the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) for a productive exchange. They discussed ongoing research initiatives and potential areas for future collaboration, focusing on Indian Ocean politics, geo-strategy, and maritime policy. The meeting facilitated a valuable sharing of insights and reaffirmed mutual commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation through joint initiatives.

21 July 2025, NIMA launched a 4-day maritime training workshop on July 21, 2025, for young leadership of Pakistan, bringing together experts and participants from various institutions. Key discussions included:
– “Geo Strategic Environment in the Indian Ocean” by Mr. Kamran Hamid Hashmi
– “Major Power Interests in the Indian Ocean” by Cdr. Anees Khan (R)
– “Climate Change and Marine Biodiversity” by Dr. Fasiha Safdar
