Faculty and students from ALHAMD Islamic University visited NIMA in Islamabad for an insightful session

22 May 2025 – Faculty and students from ALHAMD Islamic University visited the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) in Islamabad for an insightful session on Maritime Law, the Blue Economy, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The delegation was welcomed by Cdre Khalid Rashid Director NIMA (I) while Ms. Khadija introduced NIMA’s role in Pakistan’s maritime sector. Lt. Commander (Retd) Sher Afzal discussed Pakistan’s maritime zones and legal frameworks. Mr. Wajih ur Rehman highlighted Blue Economy opportunities in fisheries, shipping, renewable energy, and tourism, stressing sustainable resource use. Ms. Afshan concluded with a focus on SDG 14 (Life Below Water), advocating marine conservation and international cooperation. The session emphasized the link between maritime education, economic growth, and environmental sustainability, reaffirming NIMA and ALHAMD’s commitment to a sustainable maritime future for Pakistan.
