NIMA 14th BoA Meeting chaired by Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi NI(M)
8 January 2026: 14th Board of Advisors (BoA) meeting of the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) was held at its head office in Islamabad. The meeting was chaired by Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, former Chief of Naval Staff and Chairman BoA NIMA, with board members participating both in person and online.
Rear Admiral Javaid Iqbal, President NIMA warmly welcomed the attendees and highlighted the institute’s significant contributions to maritime affairs. Vote of thanks was also given to former President NIMA Vice Admiral Dr. Ahmed Saeed.
Board members engaged in in-depth discussions, providing valuable insights into a diverse range of agenda items. These included maritime policy development, ports and harbor infrastructure, shipping industry trends, ship recycling, maritime tourism, offshore hydrocarbon and mineral exploration, fisheries and aquaculture, emerging issues in maritime domain, maritime governance, marine pollution control, the integration of emerging AI technologies in maritime sectors, and sustainable ocean resource management.
In his closing remarks, Chairman expressed sincere gratitude for the constructive feedback and expert suggestions offered by the distinguished participants. He shared his vision for NIMA to become a premier international maritime think tank and urged all board members to collaborate in achieving this goal. He also praised the dedication and exceptional efforts of the NIMA team and researchers, acknowledging the considerable progress the institute has made todate.
