30 April 25 – NIMA hosted a webinar titled “IMO’s Net-Zero Framework under MARPOL Annex VI: Pakistan’s Commitment and Way Forward”. The event brought together a diverse panel of experts and stakeholders, including Mr. Muhammad Shafique, Dr. Irfan Yousuf, Ms. Afia Sarosh, Cdr. Farooq Ali from Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW), and representatives from the Office of the DG Ports and Shipping, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Port Qasim Authority (PQA), and other key maritime institutions.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC) graced the occasion as Chief Guest, expressing the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at reducing GHG emissions in the shipping sector. Speakers emphasized the critical role of research, institutional collaboration, and policy integration in enabling Pakistan to align with the IMO’s Net-Zero Framework and meet its global climate responsibilities, especially the inclusion of shipping-related emissions in the NDCs.
